Melbourne Wedding Blog: Wedding Venues

Tell us about your venue.

Since 2012. MFW is a versatile venue so also does large corporate and dinner events, but we do around 15 weddings a year.

Why should a couple consider your venue over other venues?

We have everything you need, from the Ceremony to somewhere to bust a move on the dancefloor. And on top of that, the venue is a Stunning urban sanctuary right in the CBD.

You really can’t beat the location. Not many venues also come complete with their own Water feature, Wine cellar and a 10 meter Arched entrance!

But I think the main thing would be our approach to Weddings and the couples who want to share their special day with us. We want to build a relationship with our guests to really find out who they are and what we want. We are all about flexibility, from the space, down to our packages. We’ll really work with you to try and make everything you imagined a reality.

What’s the first thing couples usually ask when they come and see you? (And can you answer those questions here)

Everyone obviously has their own vision and questions around their big day but a few common questions we get:

Is there room for a DJ and a dancefloor? Yes definitely. Once you walk through our Fabulous entrance, you enter our bar area which is perfect for welcome drinks and canapes and then to be used again later for the dance floor.

Are there any hire fees? Nope. As long as you reach your minimum spend, there is no hire fee to use the venue for your reception.

Is there a fee if we hold our ceremony there? We charge a one off fee of $500 to hold the ceremony at the venue.

Can we bring a cake? Of course, there is no fee to bring a cake. We’ve had people bring cup cakes, doughnuts and even a cheese wheel!

Can we make any changes to the menus? Yes, we are more than happy to chat to you about the menu and our Chefs will try and accommodate any requests. We have provided oyster bars, candy tables and charcuterie displays on request in the past.

Can you cater to dietary requirements? We can cater to most requirements as long as we receive a full list in advance.

Are Children Welcome? Yes, Children are more than welcome in the venue and we can cater with a variety of children’s meals.

What size functions can you hold/host?

From small intimate Weddings of 30 people, all the way up to large celebrations of 300 people.

Can couples bring in their own caterer? What about alcohol?

Couples can’t bring their own food and drinks but why would they need to? Between our fantastic chefs and talented Sommelier, they have all the choice they need.

Can the ceremony be held at your venue?

Yes, Couples love our long archway entrance, perfect for photos and ceremonies. We have held up to 80 people for Ceremonies.

Are the couple free to decorate as they like?

Absolutely. We’ve had red carpets, sand sculptures, photo booths, Hanging curtains. As long as nothing is done to damage the venue, the possibilities are endless. While we encourage couples to use their imagination and dress the space as they wish, the venue is so beautiful on its own, it doesn’t really need much decorating.

If your venue is outdoors is there a backup space in case of rain?

Located on one of Melbourne’s famous Laneways, the entire venue is inside.

Could you give our readers some indication of the range of prices for hiring your venue?

We run on a minimum spend basis so couples are welcome to create a package that suits them to reach the minimum spend. We can cater to those with a more modest budget to Weddings where there is no budget. On Average, our couples usually spend from $100-$150pp.

How early do couples need to book you?

We do get couples booking a year in advance however as long as there is availability, we have put together a few shot gun weddings with just a few months to go. The further out you enquire, the more chance of availability.

What time at night can weddings stay at your venue?

We have a 1am Licence so last drinks would be at 12:45am.

Do you offer accommodation options?

We don’t have accommodation options but as we are so central;, there is plenty of accommodation near by!

What other (if any) wedding services do you offer?

We provide custom menus, seating plans and place cards free of charge. Table cloths are also included and we have AV equipment available to hire. If they are having a DJ, they can plug in to our sound system or they can bring along a playlist of their favourite songs and we’ll happily play it for them.

How can people get in contact with you?

Functions@apeg.com or call our Functions Manager on 03 9603 1628.
